Over the last few years, facial fillers have become quite popular as procedures have become less expensive, do not require surgery and have little to no downtime. At the plunge of a syringe, wrinkles and volume loss can be corrected in no time at all. On the downside, while facial fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are readily available, they are only a temporary fix. But now, SculptraAesthetic has hit the market as a facial filler that can last up to 2 years.

Dr. Robert Burke, a cosmetic surgeon in Ann Arbor, MI, recently added SculptraAesthetic to his office and has been pleased with the results.

Dr. Burke uses a multi-plain injection technique which places the injection near the bone for deep volume and another below the dermis for wrinkle removal. "With this volume enhancement, I've seen results that are absolutely fantastic. I've got a patient - her before and after will absolutely knock your socks off."

SculptraAesthetic can be used in other areas than the face. "It can be used for hand rejuvenation. It's a simple injection technique and you can take a lot of the aging off hands. It can be used in the decolletage area on women between their breasts. It can also be used in minor amounts for buttock augmentation."

In describing the ideal patient for SculptraAesthetic, Dr. Burke discusses a person who is between the age of 30-50 and is beginning to lose volume below their eyes, cheeks and nasolabial folds and is perhaps developing a bit of a jowl. By simply injecting SculptraAesthetic early on, many of the signs of aging can be reversed due to a chemical released that stimulates skin to remain youthful.

Another reason why SculptraAesthetic is appealing to patients is the complete lack of surgery required. "Other candidates for this would be an older person who wants to have facial rejuvenation, but they don't want surgery - so what can you do? Fill in volume. Other potential patients are going to have surgery, but one of the problems with surgery is that sometimes the look isn't very pleasing. If they're pulled too tight, they just don't look natural. So you could add volume to get them ready to then tighten their skin," says Dr. Burke.

Depending on treatment area, the cost of SculptraAesthetic starts at $800. For example, the nasolabial folds start at $800 and the cost of hand rejuvenation is $800 per hand. While typical fillers last about 3-4 months with some able to last up to a year, Dr. Burke points out that it is important to remember the longevity of the injection, "They say two years is a ballpark but some people have had cases where it's lasted 6 plus years. Sometimes, you may need to do a touch up in order to boost its lasting ability and everybody's going to be different, but this lasts on an average far longer than normal injectables."
